The Arab Media Monitor

Who are we?

The Arab Media Monitor is a non-profit organization working to defend freedom of media and journalists throughout the Arab world.

It will uphold international standards of media freedom guaranteed in relevant international conventions such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

It will reach out to journalists and media organizations throughout the Arab World to help protect and defend their rights. However, it will focus during its initial launching period on media freedom in Egypt, the Arab world’s most populous country and major cultural center.

The AMM will monitor various abuses committed against journalists and media organizations using a network of trained monitors, researchers and analysts. It will work on documenting and exposing various kinds of legal, political and economic pressures inflicted by authorities and those in power on media organizations and journalists in order to influence their coverage.

The monitor will issue periodical reports documenting abuses and highlighting the status of media freedom in the Arab World. It will also seek to increase awareness about media freedomthrough publications and by organizing workshopsand conferences.
