A Cairo criminal court has sentenced on Saturday the journalist Asmaa Kamel Abdullah Hassan”, known as Asma Zidan, to five years severe imprisonment in the case No. 59703.
The security forces had arrested Zidan, a journalist for the electronic newspaper Fekra, last October. The prosecutor charged her with publishing false photos that would disturb the public peace and insult the president of the republic on her personal Facebook page.
The Department of Information Technology in the Ministry of the Interior has obtained authorization from the public prosecution to arrest the journalist based on the instructions of the Ministry of the Interior to track information crimes on social networking sites and what is published on them in terms of incitement or insulting the president of the republic.
