Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate “EJS” issued a statement denouncing arbitrary arrests, where some journalists’ homes were raided at dusk illegally.

EJS said Saturday: “What happened to Journalists recently makes it a must to have a serious and decisive stance to stop violations against Egyptians generally, and Journalists among them.”

EJS demanded security services to investigate seriously and immediately arresting of journalists on a cafe and raiding homes of journalists Amr Badr and Mahmoud Al-Sakka at dawn.

It added: “I will not be acceptable in any way to intimidate journalists and their families because doing their job… The progress of this country will not be (achieved) by the return of repression and intimidation policies, but by releasing public freedoms, and make a room for critics to express their opinions freely.”

The statement stressed that: “The policy of fear won’t lead to safety. The return of repression would not build a nation. There is no future of a regime that doesn’t listen to its opponents.”

EJS renewed its demand to release journalists jailed because of their view points, and to stop abuses against its members.
