London (Ikshef) Arab Media Freedom Monitor “Ikshef” and Egyptian Coordination of Rights and Freedoms “ECRF” have sent complaints to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression and to the Special Rapporteur against Torture, over the case of Egyptian photojournalist Khalid Sahloob who is currently being subjected to harsh torture in Al-Aqrab heavily-guarded prison, who is serving a three-year sentence in prison in the case of AlJazeera English, or what is known as Marriott Cell.

The complaints stressed that Sahloob is facing a slow death in his cell because of tortures he suffers from, and a new case was made up against him although he is in prison while it took place after his imprisonment by 8 months. This led him to go on a hunger strike since 17 April,

All the above-mentioned has caused him to lose half of his weight and have sever diabetes, stomach ulcer, esophagus inflammation, lumbar roughness, salts on the kidneys, difficulty of speech and weak eyesight. Moreover, he is no longer able to walk normally and uses a wheelchair.

Ikshef calls upon all who are concerned about freedom of expression and facing torture to intervene to save the life of photographer Khaled Sahloob and other detained journalists.

It also calls for participating in a campaign of solidarity with Sahloob via the hashtags #FreekhaledSahloub and #FreeEgyptMedia
