Arab Media Freedom Monitor “Ikshef” rejects and condemns Egyptian security authorities denying two Sudanese journalists from entering Egypt, and holding them for some time before deporting them from where they came.

Ikshef asserts that what happened as a result of political tension in the relationship between Khartoum and Cairo is a violation of the freedom of movement and represents a new negative message added to a series of repression of press freedom, and a blow to communication among Sudanese and Egyptian journalists, and represents the first stab to a joint media honor charter signed by the two countries recently.

The Cairo airport security authorities held Iman Kamaluddin, a journalist in Al-Sudani newspaper on Monday 24 April, 24 hours after deporting her colleague journalist Al-Taher Sati in the newspaper Al-Intibaha without logical reasons, which prompted the Sudanese Journalists Union to issue a strongly worded statement against the Egyptian authorities, demanding similar treatment, even calling on Sudanese journalists to refrain from traveling to Egypt. It called for the expulsion of all Egyptian media and press outlets from Sudan, both official and private ones, and to deny the entry of Egyptian publications and issuing an order to all Sudanese media to not to broadcast any Egyptian content.

Ikshef calls on the Board of Directors of the Sudanese Journalists Union to prioritize reason and wisdom in dealing with this crisis, which was instigated by Egyptian security services, so that the reactions of the Union will not affect the freedom of movement and communication between Egyptian and Sudanese journalists.
