Judicial Report Recommends Acceptance of Case Filed by Ikshef and 6 Human Rights Organizations to Close Egypt’s Infamous Al-Aqrab Prison

Egypt’s State Commissioners Commission in the Administrative Court issued a judicial report recommending acceptance of a lawsuit demanding the closure of the infamous heavily guarded Al-Aqrab (Scorpion) prison.

Arab Media Freedom Monitor “Ikshef” and six other Egyptian human rights organizations have filed this case two years ago on behalf of the Association of Families of Al-Aqrab Prisoners, which demands the closure of the heavily guarded Torah Prison Guard No. 992, known as Al-Aqrab Prison, and the distribution of its prisoners to prisons near their places of residence.

The organizations include El-Nadim Against Violence and Torture, Egyptian Coordination of Rights and Freedoms “ECRF”, Hisham Mubarak Law Center, Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, Committee for the Defense of the Oppressed “Damer Egypt” and Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression “AFTE”, in coordination with Association of Families of Al-Aqrab Prisoners.

On this occasion, Ikshef Thanks human rights lawyer Mohammed Sadeq, who adopted this case from the beginning and wrote its petition before himself becoming a prisoner in the Al-Aqrab prison, which he demanded its closure.
