London – June 4, 2016

(Ikshef) – Trial of leaders of Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate was postponed till June 18, 2016, to let defendants’ lawyers read trial documents.

EJS’s Head Yahya Qalash, his deputy Khalid Al-Balshy and EJS general secretary Gamal Abdel-Rahim are accused of hiding wanted persons and publishing false news.

Ikshef’s Lawer, Amr Aly El-Deen, said postponement is a normal procedure, because referring to trial was quick and defendants’ lawyers want to review related documents.

Hundreds of journalists rallied at Abdeen court protesting detention and referring EJS leaders to trial on false accusations, as they consider the move a punishment for journalists who protested against storming EJS headquarters by security forces, which is an unprecedented move in EJS history.
