Arab Media Freedom Mesonitor “Ikshef” express deep concern over the deteriorating health condition of Egypt’s young photojournalist Khaled Sahloob who is serving 3 years in jail in the case of “Al Jazeera English” in heavely-guarded Al-Aqrab prison. This comes as he undergoes a hunger strike for more than 135 days in protest against physical and psychological torture .

According to the testimony of Khaled’s family who visited him on August 31st in prison, Sahloob is vulnerable to certain death after he lost 50 kg of weight, and become incapable of movement, where he met them were on a wheelchair, as the family said in their testimony to Ikshef that he couldn’t not move his legs, as he was attacked by the prison’s chief of detectives, and he had his head shaved as a punishment, and appeared beaten and bruised at the front of his head. The family added that their loved one seemed afraid to mention any details for fear of further abuse by prison officers.

Ikshef calls on all who are concerned with human rights inside and outside Egypt to take swift action to rescue the photographer Khaled Shlob who is really exposed to slow death for doing his job as a journalist in a country that views a journalist work as a crime.

Ikshef calls on all supporters of freedom to start blogging in solidarity with Khalid via Hashtaj #save_khaled .

Photographer Khaled Mohammed Abdul-Raouf Sahloob (24 years old) was arrested on January 2nd, 2014, on charges of working with Al Jazeera English (case known as “Marriott cell”) that includes accusations against him of publish images and false news that would disturb public security. Another lawsauit was fabircate against him while he was in prison.
