OIMDH Condemns “Assassination of Press and Legitimacy in Egypt”

June 25, 2016

(Ikshef) – International Observatory for Media and Human Rights “OIMDH” issued “a statement of repudiation condemning Egypt’s most recent rulings against press.

OIMDH expressed its “ultimate support” for 4 journalists (Ibrahim Helal, Alaa Sablan, Ahmed Abdo Afifi and Asmaa Al-Khatib) who were sentenced to death under what OIMDH called “politicized justice”.

In its statement Saturday, it also called for trying them fairly and under international guarantees by neutral non-politicized judicial body.

Also, OIMDH expressed its support for 3 leaders of Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate who are charged with “harboring fugitives and spreading false news”.

It also expressed support for reporter Mosaab Hamed who stands in a military court.

OIMDH stressed that these rulings are systematic assassination against press and freedom of opinion and expression and for “legitimacy” represented by president Mohammed Morsi who is detained after winning fair and free elections, then received rulings with death sentences in addition to 85 years in prison.

OIMDH denounced assassinations that were “legitimized” against thousands of free Egyptians, and even against foreigners like Italian student Giulio Regeni.

The observatory asked the free of the world and the international human rights organizations to move quickly to save the Egyptian journalists and press in Egypt, which experiences an unprecedented setback press did not face since 1952.
