Cairo Criminal Court has decided Saturday to extend remand of journalist Ahmed Zahran, director of Mokhtar Al-Islami magazine, for 45 days.
Ikshef’s lawyer has demanded the release of Zahran, because he is a victim and not an accused as he was subjected to be killed by the police, and that his health needs urgent treatment, and as a journalist he had nothing to do with the incident he was arrested in, as his presence was a casual presence as a media coach. However, the court decided to extend remand of him and others in the same case.
The judge allowed Zahran’s family to enter the courtroom at the request of Ikshef’s lawyer and the family, and they were able to see him from behind the cage only, although he was promised to a visit forbidden for 10 months in the notorious Al-Aqrab 2 prison.
